EFPlighting Introduction

Welcome to the very first free instructional web site dedicated entirely to fundamental lighting techniques for Electronic Field Productions (EFP) and Electronic News Gathering (ENG).

This site is not yet completed, actually we hope that it will never be. EFPlighting.com (or ENGlighting.com) will continuously expand to cover every area of productions and constantly expand all topics to reflect new techniques and products.  More than just a web site, this will be an invaluable educational tool for those with the need and desire to acquire or upgrade indispensable skills vital to grow successfully in a very competitive industry.

The initial topics are about people lighting, as this is the most requested subject. In the very near future you'll be seeing entire new sections dedicated to products, tabletop and food photography, interior lighting such as night clubs, hotel rooms, restaurants, etc. and lighting for industrial productions. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you would like to see priority given to any other areas of production.

Every lighting technique that you will see here were created, implemented and time tested on video assignments over a period of many years by regular freelance crews with standard equipment packages. Although many of the images on this site were created for training purposes, the majority of the images were recorded during actual assignments. Most of the images are still frames extracted from BetacamSP or other broadcast formats. Some were directly taken off the air from  Nino's assignments.

We encourage viewers to submit ideas and their own lighting techniques that have proven to be successful at ideas@ENGlighting.com We will try-out the submitted techniques and if proven beneficial we'll illustrate and post the technique on an upcoming "Viewer's Input" section of this web site along with a credit and a small bio of the professional who submitted the idea.

This is your web site, a communal effort to improve our profession. In the near future ENGlighting will also initiate a monitored forum where viewers can share ideas and post questions about video lighting or any other video subjects.

Throughout  this site you will see many diagrams,  although  everything is copyrighed  feel free to copy any of the diagrams if this would be of any help on your assignments. Keep in mind however that publications of any of  the enclosed material is prohibited.

We hope that you find this site rewarding and beneficial, your valuable comments and suggestions will alway be welcomed.

Thank you
